This article characterized the forest fragments of Una River hydrographic basin, affluent of the Paraíba do Sul River. Results showed that the average mean size of all fragments is 9.06 ha and that the correlation to the circular shape is 0.68 and the mean nucleus area of fragments considering a border effect of 60m is 5.86 ha. The mean distance among them is 245m. These parameters indicate that this basin has elongated fragments, with high border effect and may be in risk of biodiversity erosion. The image showing the different size classes of fragments allowed spatial observation of critical areas of the basin in ecological sustainability risk. The computing tools proved to be useful and easy to use as long as a previous georeferenced data basis is available.
